Summary
OSSHunt is mostly a static reference site: no accounts, no comments, no advertising. It has two optional parts: a weekly newsletter and analytics (including a test of two headlines). Neither starts until you choose it.
What happens before you choose
- No analytics, no tracking cookie and no experiment. The site stores one small cookie,
aaarrr_consent, to remember your choice on the consent banner. - Search runs in your browser against data already on the page. What you type is not sent to us.
- Fonts and logos are served from the site itself.
If you accept analytics
We set an anonymous visitor cookie, ajs_anonymous_id (up to a year), and record which pages you view and which links you use, with your page address, campaign tags in the address, device type and browser. We use it to count visits and to compare two versions of the home headline: you see one of them, and we count whether people who saw each one subscribed to the newsletter. We do not use it to identify you. You can withdraw at any time with "Privacy choices" at the foot of every page; the cookie is then deleted and nothing more is sent. The analytics software runs on our own server.
If you subscribe to the newsletter
You give your email address and tick the box. We send one email to confirm it (the newsletter starts only after you click the link), then one email a week. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link. We keep a record that proves your consent: the time, the wording of the notice you saw, what you chose, your browser's user agent and a one-way digest of your network address, not the address itself. The address is used for the newsletter only. We do not sell it or share it with advertisers.
Who handles the data
Idea Crafters LLC is responsible for it. The site and its emails go through Cloudflare. When you start typing in the signup form, your browser loads Cloudflare Turnstile (a bot check) from challenges.cloudflare.com; Cloudflare receives the request as it would for any visitor of a page it serves. The stack that records signups, consent and analytics runs on servers we operate.
What the host may record
Like any web server, the hosting provider may keep standard request logs (for example IP address, requested page, time and browser type) for security and operations. We do not combine these logs with other data to identify visitors.
Links to other sites
Pages link to vendor, project and source websites. Those sites have their own policies, and we do not control what they collect.
Data about products
The comparisons use publicly available information about software products and companies, each with a dated source. They are not personal data about visitors.
Your choices and contact
To see, correct or delete what we hold about you, or to withdraw consent, write to hello@osshunt.com or open an issue at github.com/jadb/osshunt. If this policy changes, the date above changes.
